MIART 2022
The exhibition project for Miart 2022 presents a solo show by Noah El Hachem (Düsseldorf, 1998) with a selection of paintings.
Other than the characteristic element of the portrait, El Hachem’s paintings are born from pure stages of imagination - not from computer-generated images, which is often wrongly associated with his paintings. The artist's desire, through his masterfully painted artworks, which seem to exist thanks to their own intrinsic gravity, is to convey feelings of balance and composure in the viewer. Strongly influenced by the world of architecture and in particular by Hector Guimard, the French architect and leading exponent of French Art Nouveau, and by the German Peter Behrens, whose styles have visibly influenced his painting technique, in his paintings, El Hachem consciously plays with the use of recurring elements, including leaves. In fact, in an interview the artist tells that leaves are a vital element to him because as a child his paternal grandmother used them to treat Noah when he was ill. When painting his faces and his compositions of dematerialised figures, the artist plays with geometric repetition, angularity, decoration and symbolism, finding them within the depths of his pictorial universe.
